Google Voice: What’s New With VoIP

Posted in Uncategorized on September 9, 2010 by bridgetmariejones

In search for better alternatives for landline and cell phones, people came up with VoIP technology. This way voice, and what is even more amazing – video calls, can be made using the internet connection and minimum software and equipment. Skype, Magic Jack, Vonage, Google Voice, and other, less popular VoIP service providers, have long ago proved to be more efficient in terms of expenditures and comfort of use.

However, neither of then was still perfect. You either had to block your landline connection and get a completely new number (Magic Jack). Another common inconvenience was caused by the imperfectness of the voice mail, which either comes attached to the email massages, or is pending in your voice mail box, is deleted automatically after being listened to or expires within some period of time.

Google finally took some steps forward in improving the quality of communication means. Google Voice has offered new features which everyone will definitely appreciate. Improvements were made to the voice mail, equipment diversity, blocking options, mobile app, to mention the brightest ones.

For example, with the improved voice mail features, you can get your voice mail message transcribed, replayed, and saved for you and then answer in the form of a message for free.

In case you have a landline phone, a cell phone and a VoIP, you can get a Google voice number to ring all of them at the same time to make sure that you get the phone call.

These are very basic descriptions of what Google Voice has to impress you with. But you are welcome to explore more!

Not all roads lead to Rome

Freedom is not merely the opportunity to do as one pleases; neither is it merely the opportunity to choose between set alternatives. Freedom is, first of all, the chance to formulate the available choices, to argue over them and then, the opportunity to choose. How can we constantly make right choices? Nobody knows. The best thing you can do is to examine. You make choices every day, and your life becomes more convenient or comfortable because of them. For example, you decide which stores to shop at and which gas station to patronize. The same thing is with VoIP services you use. Let’s see.

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) – is one way people are making and receiving telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection rather than a regular phone line. VoIP converts your phone call into a digital signal that travels through the Internet to the person you are calling. VoIP technology is offered by some companies that specialize in VoIP service. Most services using VoIP allow you to call anyone with a telephone number — including local, long distance, cellular, and international numbers.

VoIP providers can be divided into Residential Providers (Vonage, MagicJack, Voip.com), Small Business Providers (Packet 8, Nextiva etc.), Peer to Peer Providers (Skype, Gizmo Project) and Mobile Providers (Fring, Mobivox).

The most frequently used are:

Vonage began operations in 2001. Vonage World plan offers free unlimited calling to landline phones in all cities and locations in more than 60 countries. Vonage is easy to get set up, but do not forget about their lacking customer service. If you use your home phone service frequently for business related purposes, we recommend one of our featured business providers. For residential use, Vonage is a solid choice. Vonage’s service is sold on the web and through national retailers and is available to customers in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom.

MagicJack is a very simple and user friendly way to make VoIP phone calls for practically no cost. For twenty dollars a year MagicJack customers are able to make calls from the U.S. and Canada to anywhere in the world. MagicJack is a compact device which is only slightly bigger than a pack of matches. It has a USB connector (with 1ft extension cord) on one end and a phone jack on the other end. For the price there is definitely no better way to make residential phone calls over the internet. MagicJack is one of the local phone companies, which has contracts about traffic exchange with 49 states.

Skype was founded in 2003. It’s based in Luxembourg, with offices in Europe, the US and Asia. Skype is a peer to peer voice over IP service that is available online in a soft phone format. Calls to other users of the service and to free-of-charge numbers are free, while calls to other landlines and mobile phones can be made for a low fee. People stay in touch with one another across the world using Skype. Skype is a great choice for an inexpensive way to stay in touch.

Free will or choice is the greatest gift in our life.

The future’s in the air, I can feel it everywhere, blowing with the wind of change.

Men are anxious to improve their circumstances. “Almost to good to be true” – Have you heard these words? Not yet? Oh, that’s ok, we’ll brief you. Men make history, and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better. (Harry Truman)

One of such «society moving powers» is Daniel Borislow’s invention – MagicJack™, that came to the market in September 2007. Dan Borislow is the founder of YMAX Communications Corporation, a modern phone company with the largest competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) network in the U.S. YMax provides high quality, low-cost phone calls via the innovative magicJack USB device and YMax Voice network that puts an end to monthly phone bills. Magic Jack became a product of the year in 2009. Let’s take a closer look at this device. “I’ve never seen simpler to use product. You simply plug it into your computer, plug in your phone and start calling. The call quality is perfect. This device is so simple, my grandmother can install one on her PC and begin.” MagicJack provides the cheapest way for anyone for making calls. MagicJack is Skype and Vonage killer. With this device you can make calls through the web with the help of your beloved phones all over Canada, USA and, of course, to your friends, family, business partners, who are currently abroad, at lowest price ever. You just can pay about 20 bucks a year and have a phone in your house.

MagicJack’s founder – Daniel Borislow’s prefers to call it not voice-over IP (VoIP) but really, really cheap phone service because it eliminates the expense of local and long distance phone charges and saves the average customer around $1000 a year. You ask why it is like that? Because telephone companies do have to pay access charges to terminate calls to customers. And MagicJack, as a VoIP company, doesn’t have to pay for access charges. It took them three and a half years to build a system like that. The network is very important, and it makes everything work for them. It’s going to be the fastest growing telecom company in the world; Borislow likes to call it “Telecom Revolution Part II.”

Some years ago YMax put on the market similar device for the fixed, stationary phones and for the last two years more than 5 million samples were sold (nowadays about 3 million people from these 5 millions us it). It’s called SJ Labs and it was founded in 1999. SJ Labs is a world leader in VoIP softphone development winning numerous industry awards over the years.

YMAX also says it plans to roll out this year a Skype-like service that will not require any Magic Jack hardware, just a PC or an iPhone. It also plans a new version of MagicJack to turn cellphones into wireless MagicJack handsets.

Magic Jack Improves It’s Customer Service

Magic Jack is quite new product, being in sale only for couple of years. But it still sells good and the customers are growing rapidly. That is why the company is going to renovate their system.

Improved customer support is something you can expect to see in the nearest future. Their customer base is growing fast and as it continues to do so, customer support is a top priority in their business. Currently they offer necessary amount of tech chat online, supporting by over 130 people with an average wait time of seconds. They provide a special system of rating those agents on a 1 to 5 scale (5 being the best) and those who receive the lowest grades are going to be replaced. That is something that you can call a good customer service. Human factor plays a great role in serving people and to provide a good customer service you have to have a good stuff. People working in your company shouldn’t be rude, have to call people in a proper way, respect their words and be helpful in any question. Their answers should be understandable, without using of specialized epithets, which average person would not be able to understand. Working with people is always hard, but if your business demands it, do everything to make this contact perfect. Thus removing people not suitable for this kind of job is working hard on the customer service. The agents of Magic Jack are learning and improving rapidly.

Magic Jack has also recently created an elite group of Super Techs to which concerns can be elevated. Online chat is going to stay the primary means for customer support because their customers are already online, and it’s not so comfortable to call and wait on hold for a telephone support agent to be able to talk to you. In order Magic Jack to work it needs Internet access. If your Internet is down, nothing else matters. If the problem is with the Internet provider and Magic Jack customers are contacting their support, it will block their customer service efforts. They also have a quick system check called Magic Fix as a first step to any support inquiry which can catch and fix many issues automatically before the customer even has to chat with anyone. Very easy and really effective.

One of the main benefits of the Magic Jack is its portability. By being able to plug into the USB slot, the customers may take it anywhere in the world and use it with any broadband Internet using computer.

Therefore it will be a good start of saving money on calling throughout the world for low price and all over the USA for free.
